First National Bank (FNB) has introduced a new ATM feature that allows international cardholders to view cash withdrawal amounts in their home currency before completing a transaction. The move aims to make banking easier for overseas visitors.

FNB accommodates foreign bankers with ATM feature
The service, launched in partnership with Irish fintech company Fexco, is being rolled out across FNB’s ATM network, allowing customers to choose whether to withdraw cash in their home currency or South African rand, Daily Investor reported.
“Customers will now be able to view ATM withdrawal amounts in their home currency before completing a transaction,” FNB said.
According to BusinessTech, the feature uses Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which automatically detects a foreign bank card and displays the withdrawal amount in the cardholder’s home currency.

The benefits of the new feature
FNB said the service is designed to improve transparency, convenience, and the overall banking experience for international travellers. FNB Merchant Services CEO John Mlangeni said the enhancement gives visitors greater certainty when accessing cash.
“This enhancement helps customers better understand the value of a transaction before making a decision,” he said.
Mlangeni added that the bank is focused on providing “simple, transparent and accessible solutions” for customers, while Fexco CEO Sean Crowe said the rollout would create “a more consistent experience for international cardholders travelling throughout South Africa.”
