  • Floyd Brink has been reappointed as Johannesburg’s City Manager after scoring highest in the selection process.
  • His return comes despite his previous appointment being ruled unlawful by the High Court in 2023.
  • Most political parties endorsed his appointment, urging him to focus on service delivery for residents.

Floyd Brink has been appointed as the new City Manager at the City of Johannesburg.

This follows an interview process in which Brink scored the highest among all competing candidates. His appointment comes despite previous court rulings that declared his earlier appointments to the same role irregular.

Brink is not new to the position, having previously served as City Manager in 2023 before being removed in December last year after the Johannesburg High Court found his appointment unlawful.

In the latest round of interviews, Brink scored 114 points, beating contender Dr. Msizi Myeza, who scored 104.

His appointment was endorsed by all political parties in the council except the DA and FF Plus, who abstained from voting on the item to appoint the new City Manager.

Parties forming the local government unity in the city say they expect Brink to prioritise service delivery and put residents at the forefront.
