Five high-profile suspects were shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire with police in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Thursday morning, 8 January.
The group was wanted in connection with a string of violent incidents, including murder, house robberies, and several counts of attempted murder.
Notably, the suspects were being sought for previous life threatening attacks on police officers.
The confrontation occurred at a property in the Bester Area 10 district.
According to authorities, the suspects opened fire on officers, leading to a fatal shootout. No police officers were injured during the operation.
Four firearms were recovered at the scene, and a forensic search of the premises is ongoing.
The operation marks a significant breakthrough in the crackdown on “Trio Crimes” in the province.
