Five people have been confirmed dead following a devastating head-on collision between a bakkie and a light motor vehicle on the N1 near Modimolle, Limpopo, on Wednesday morning.

The horrific crash occurred near Mookgophong at Boekenhout, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, the impact resulted in the closure of several lanes, causing significant traffic congestion stretching back to the Kranskop Toll Plaza.

Authorities have partially closed the N1 South as recovery operations continue.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and adhere to all instructions from on-site officials.

This tragedy serves as a somber reminder for road users to remain vigilant and strictly follow road safety regulations as the Easter holiday period approaches.
