Five-time Grammy Award-winning musician Angélique Kidjo has become the first Black African artist and the first African musician to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Benin star received the 2,854th star in the category of Recording.
Emceed by Variety Correspondent Angelique Jackson, the event’s guest speakers were actor Willem Dafoe and CEO of The Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr.
With a career spanning four decades, Kidjo has amassed eighteen albums that display her commanding voice and electrifying stage presence.
Kidjo was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the world, among many other accolades.
