Students seeking financial aid for the 2026 academic year have been issued a final call to action. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed that both new applicants and continuing students who were initially denied funding have until 31 January to lodge a formal appeal.
To improve efficiency, NSFAS has introduced a streamlined appeals process this year.
The scheme aims to provide a fairer reconsideration of applications, with outcomes being communicated to students on a rolling basis. However, officials have stressed that the burden of proof rests with the applicant; any appeal submitted without the correct supporting evidence will be automatically disqualified.
Strict timelines are now in effect. Students are granted a 30-day window from the date they receive their initial rejection to submit all necessary paperwork.
NSFAS warned that missing this deadline or failing to provide the required documents within the month-long period will result in the permanent forfeiture of the right to appeal.
