FIFA have named Polish match official Szymon Marciniak as referee for Sunday’s World Cup final between Argentina and France.
The 41-year-old became a FIFA-listed official in 2013, having started his refereeing career in the Polish top flight in 2009.
Marciniak has been in charge of two games at the World Cup so far, having whistled both finalists once.
He was in charge of France’s 2-1 group stage win over Denmark, as well as Argentina’s 2-1 in the last 16 over Australia.
Over the two games, he only gave out five yellow cards, no red card and no penalties and has seemingly impressed the refereeing committee around former FIFA referee Pierluigi Collina.
Marciniak will be assisted by Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, while USA’s Ismail Elfath will be the fourth official. Poland’s Tomasz Kwiatkowski will be the VAR official.
