FIFA Hints At Maart Puskas Nod?
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart’s wonder goal in the Soweto Derby has been hinted at as a potential Puskas award nominee by FIFA.
Maart, 27, opened his account for Chiefs in emphatic fashion, scoring the only goal of the game against Orlando Pirates in the first derby meeting since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The goal moved Amakhosi to fourth place, ahead of Pirates before the mid-season break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the strike could end up meaning more than just bragging rights.
Amid the social media storm over the incredible long-range effort from well inside his own half, the world football governing body took to social media to drop a potential hint for the next award ceremony.
Fellow South African’s Hlompho Kekana, known for his spectacular efforts over his career has been a nominee on a couple of occasions while Oscarine Masuluke also secured a nomination for his bicycle kick goal, ironically three of the goals were against the Buccaneers.
A stunning goal to win the #SowetoDerby 💥
