On the N4, a beloved young father from Britain was shot and killed in front of his wife and baby while pleading for mercy for his family. His wife was shot in the shoulder while fighting off the robbers who tried to take their baby from her arms.

On the Bakwena N4 on Saturday night, Juandre Kidson (29) of Brits was shot in the head and killed, while his wife Johanette was shot in the shoulder.

Around 20:00, the couple and their baby were driving towards Brits in their Hyundai SUV when they hit rocks near the R512/Randburg exit. According to police spokesperson Captain Aafje Botma, Juandre pulled over to change a flat tire, and while he was doing so, three men approached.

“The three men, armed with firearms, overpowered the victim and shot him in the head.”

Despite previously inaccurate police reports, Johanette was shot in the shoulder while fighting off robbers, not in her hand.

She also stated on Monday afternoon that no arrests had been made. Juandre’s brother, Marc Kidson, said the incident devastated the family. “Johanette is completely broken by the senseless murder of my brother. She is resting with family.”

The Kidson family is demanding answers from Police Minister Bheki Cele. Kidson stated that if this area is known for being a hotspot for these incidents, and police and the MEC for Community Safety are well aware of the dangers, they as a family want to know what is being done to keep these types of crimes from recurring on a regular basis.

“We want to know from the Minister of Police how many innocent people still have to die before something is done about this.

“The police must tell us what they have doing to improve security measures on the “platinum’ N4, which is a National route that we pay e-toll to use. They implemented E-tolls that was supposed to bring greater safety to our roads. Where is our safety? ” Kidson wanted to know.

Kidson also demanded that the Minister of Police explain why some murder cases are given preferential treatment. “Will Bheki Cele also activate a 72hour action plan to capture the murderers of my brother?” he asked.

Juandre was described as a God-fearing man who was always willing to go the extra mile to help others.

“My brother was a hardworking man who always had a smile on his face even if life got tough. He fought until the end for his wife and child,” Kidson said.
