Father Accused Of Poising And Killing His Three Boys Dies

The father of three boys from Ratanda in Heidelburg, south of Gauteng, who was accused of poisoning his sons’ drinks has died.

The man died in hospital on Friday while under police guard, according to Gauteng police. At the time of his death, he was facing murder and attempted murder charges.

Lehlogonolo Khoabane, 16, Katleho Khoabane, 13, and Tebogo Ngcongwane, 6, died this month after drinking energy drinks given to them by their father while preparing for school. The drinks allegedly contained poison.

The three brothers died at school after experiencing stomach pains just before classes resumed. Two of the boys died on school grounds, and the third died on his way to a nearby clinic. Their fourth brother, who also drank the energy drink, is said to be in the hospital.

Their father allegedly attempted suicide by overdosing on medication and stabbing himself hours after his sons left for school. After his sons died, he was arrested. He was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital, where he died after being under police guard for about two weeks.

Police forensic experts are still awaiting post-mortem results to determine the exact cause of death for the three boys.
