  • One Eskom employee was killed and another injured in a shooting incident in Witbank.
  • Police say the victims were travelling home from work when they were ambushed.
  • Authorities are appealing to the public for information as investigations continue.

Mpumalanga police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder involving two Eskom employees, which reportedly occurred last Wednesday in Witbank.

This comes after the gruesome discovery of a silver bakkie, with a man found bleeding in the driver’s seat and bullet holes all over the vehicle.

At the same time, paramedics were attending to a female passenger who had also been shot and was taken to hospital for further medical attention.

Police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane confirmed that both victims are Eskom employees.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo were coming from work to their home, and the deceased, Bongani Madonsela, was shot in the upper body. About 15 cartridges were found at the scene,” said Ndubane.

At this point, many details remain vague as police continue to search for the motive and suspects behind this barbaric act.

Ndubane has called on members of the public who may have any information or who witnessed the incident to assist the men and women in blue in arresting the suspects.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the attack and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
