Football fanatics on Twitter have collectively welcomed the call-up of Blackburn Rovers defender Faith Nokuthula Ngwenya to the Banyana Banyana squad for their upcoming international friendly.

Desiree Ellis’ charges will take on Australia in a high-profile friendly scheduled to be played in London on Saturday, 8 October 2022.

This is Nokhuthula’s first call-up to the Banyana set-up and will be gunning to make her debut when they face the co-hosts of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The rising star was born in Ireland to South African parents.

The 20-year-old defender signed for the Blues in August this year, after parting ways with Brighton and Hove Albion after her three-year stay at the club.

Ever since joining Blackburn, she has played every minute in the club’s four Barclays Women’s Championship games this season.

She made her dream debut for Blackburn in their 1-0 win over Sheffield United at Ewood Park in August.

“Honestly, it was unreal. I was excited but nervous at the same time,” she told Blackburn media.

“The first five minutes of the game, I was just taking it all in as it was a new experience for me.

“The whole occasion was amazing, having the fans there, and playing in a stadium like that – just unreal.”

FANS’ REACTION!!!

FARPost has gathered some of the reactions with many fans citing that her call-up came at the right time and the defender would provide the much-needed international experience at the back in the absence of veterans Noko Matlou and Janine van Wyk.

One fan tweeted: “Congratulations to her. I’ve been waiting for that.

Another said: “I’ve been waiting patiently for this moment. Welcome home and congrats.

The other follower replied: “Absolutely dope @descaptain, dankie the @BarclaysWSL brought you even closer to home now!!”
