Fans have reacted to viral clip of Rachel Kolisi’s interview on 947 radio, where she opened up about asking her estranged husband, Siya Kolisi for money after leaving her now.

RACHEL KOLISI: ‘I HAD TO ASK PERMISSION’

Author and speaker Rachel Kolisi opened up about having to financially depend on her estranged husband, Springboks captain Siya Kolisi, in the early stages of their relationship. In a viral clip of her interview on 947 Radio, Rachel explains that she had a full time job soon after having their first child, Nicholas, and also taking care of Siya’s younger siblings – Liyema and Liphelo.

Rachel explained that she had a boss who did not recognise Siya’s siblings as her children so she couldn’t get leave when they were sick and she also explained that she eventually left her job. This meant she now needed to rely on Siya financially while she took care of the kids.

The mom of two explained that she needed “permission” and had to ask for money for essentials.

“It was one of the most horrific decisions for me… because that meant when I needed pads, tampons, shampoo, I had to ask permission, for money to be deposited,” said Rachel, as she promotes her documentary and book, both titled Falling Forward.

Siya and Rachel are currently going through a divorce. The pair have two children together – Nicholas (11) and Keziah (9). Siya and Rachel also legally adopted his two siblings when they were younger.

FANS: ‘SHE PUT UP WITH A LOT’

“She probably must have felt uncomfortable to ask for money. Going front being independent to having to depend on someone is difficult but he was also supposed to make sure she doesn’t feel like she needs permission eish🥺,” wrote @keatlaretse Segaetsho.

“She went through a lot,” wrote Fitmom Mabhukulu.

“Yep it happens in more households than we can admit hence, financial independence is so important for women,” wrote unats1.

Others felt the word permission was taken out of context.

“I think perhaps the word “permission” has been taken out of context here. She had to ask him to send money when she had to buy sanitary products. Not that he wouldn’t allow her to buy these. But the actual funds had to come from him. I don’t think he withheld sanitary products or she had to beg for them?” wrote @Mia.
