Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane left Esteghlal FC early this year following a salary dispute with management. Esteghlal FC fans expressed frustration at his departure, coining the nickname ‘Mosimoney’ to imply he left for financial reasons.
Indeed, it was a premature end to what promised to be a good match between a talented coach and an ambitious club.
When Pitso joined, the whole club moved, and he immediately brought good results to the team. Fans loved him, as they could see their club in a good direction.
Unfortunately, their time together could not go beyond 6 months.
PITSO MOSIMANE’S FAREWELL LETTER FOLLOWING SALARY DISPUTE
According to a statement issued by MT Sports, the club had failed to meet its financial obligations within the FIFA-mandated timeframe.
“In good faith, Coach Pitso and his Technical team extended a 15-day deadline per the Fifa rules to allow the board to familiarise themselves with the situation and remedy the outstanding payments,” the statement reads.
“However, the club did not resolve the issue within the deadlines they set for themselves. Coach Pitso Mosimane and his technical team are still owed more than two months’ salaries,” the statement continues.
Despite giving his side of the story, some fans misunderstood Pitso and trolled him on Instagram.
