- Fannie Nkosi appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court, where he claimed he fears being poisoned in prison and has not eaten for six days.
- He faces charges linked to corruption and possession of illegal items found during a search at his home.
- His case has been postponed, with a decision pending on where he will be held before his bail hearing.
Corruption-accused cop, Fannie Nkosi, has told the Pretoria Magistrates Court that he is scared to eat in prison due to fears of being poisoned.
His lawyers revealed on Tuesday, 07 April 2026, that their client has not been able to eat for six days since his arrest.
Nkosi was arrested last Thursday following a police search and seizure at his home, where unlicensed ammunition, a hand grenade, several licensed guns, and police dockets were found.
He spent the Easter long weekend behind bars.
He is accused of lying and being an uncooperative witness before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where he gave evidence over six days.
During his testimony, Nkosi told the commission that he became the middleman between Shadrack Sibiya and Vusimuzi Cat Matlala.
Tuesday’s court proceedings
Nkosi made his first appearance, where the media was prohibited from broadcasting and filming the court proceedings.
During the proceedings, his lawyer defended the police dockets found in his home, stating that he was working on them.
His lawyer added that although Nkosi is suspended, he does come into contact with case dockets “from time to time”.
There was a heavy police presence, with armed officers inside and outside the courtroom.
Nkosi’s safety in prison
The court heard that Nkosi has not been able to eat for six days while in custody due to fears of being poisoned. His family has been providing him with food whenever they could.
There was also a debate on where Nkosi should be held pending his bail application next week.
The State suggested Kgosi Mampuru Prison, while his legal team requested that he be kept in a hospital cell.
The case has been postponed to next Monday, with the court yet to decide where Nkosi will be held as he remains in custody.
