Detective Keshi Mabunda, the officer who solved the case of serial killer Rosemary Ndlovu, will soon be based in Gqeberha.
Mabunda has been sent to Nelson Mandela Bay to investigate a rise in insurance-related murders.
The move was announced by National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, during a visit to Gqeberha on Friday.
“We are sending Mabunda, who solved the Rosemary Ndlovu case, to Nelson Mandela Bay to investigate these murders,” said Masemola. “We will find out who is behind these insurance killings.”
Mabunda will stay in Gqeberha until all the insurance killing cases are solved.
The detective first made headlines when he solved the case of former policewoman Rosemary Ndlovu, who is now serving six life sentences for killing her partner and five family members.
Recently, Nelson Mandela Bay police uncovered a criminal network involved in at least 13 insurance-related murders in the province.
In September 2023, several people, including Siyabulela Mbane and Ntombeko Msome, were arrested for these murders.
The group is said to have collected R3.7-million from insurance claims.
In a separate case, the ex-wife of a well-known Gqeberha doctor, Bantu Noqekwa, was arrested along with six others, including her 23-year-old son.
They allegedly hired hitmen who tied Dr Noqekwa to an operating table in his surgery in Zwide township and shot him multiple times in the head.
