Family of JMPD officer who was killed asks people not to share video of his shooting
The grieving family of JMPD officer Sibusiso Zikalala has made a heartfelt plea to the public, urging them to stop sharing the video of his tragic shooting.
Zikalala was killed in an incident allegedly involving an off-duty SAPS member in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. His burial took place over the weekend in Soweto.
Videos capturing the altercation and subsequent shooting circulated on social media, causing further distress to Zikalala’s family.
In a plea made during his funeral, the family expressed their deep trauma, particularly highlighting the impact on his children, and requested that the videos not be shared or reposted.
Acknowledging that the footage had already gone viral, the family emphasized the ongoing investigation and the need to await its conclusions.

They cautioned against forming assumptions based solely on the circulating videos, stressing that the true sequence of events remains unknown.
Lindiwe Zikalala, the sister of the deceased officer, expressed her disappointment at the situation, describing it as unfortunate that her brother’s death had become a trending topic on social media.
She noted the abundance of speculation surrounding the incident and urged people to remember that behind the sensationalized narratives, there is a grieving family in need of support.
Metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla also expressed sadness over Zikalala’s passing, highlighting his commendable service in the K9 unit and his dedication to tackling high-profile cases involving syndicates and drug-related matters.
Fihla emphasized the department’s profound sorrow at the loss and the commitment to honoring Zikalala’s memory.
