- A fallen tree has caused road closures on Beyers Naudé Drive in Randburg.
- The tree landed on a vehicle, but no injuries were reported.
- Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes as delays are expected.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has been alerted to an incident involving a fallen tree on Beyers Naudé Drive near West Park Cemetery.
A tree has fallen across the roadway, coming to rest on a motor vehicle. There were no passengers in the vehicle, and the driver, who was the sole occupant, luckily sustained no injuries.
This incident has led to road closures in the area.
By Friday evening, JMPD officers were awaiting the arrival of Johannesburg City Parks to assist with the removal of the tree and the clearing of debris.
Due to the size of the tree, the affected section of Beyers Naudé Drive remains closed to traffic. This closure is expected to cause significant delays in the Randburg area.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla has advised motorists to avoid Beyers Naudé Drive in the vicinity of West Park Cemetery.
“Use alternative routes such as Judith Road, Preller Drive or Tesselar Terrace to navigate around the obstruction. Stay alert for emergency and maintenance vehicles operating in the area,” said Fihla.
The JMPD will provide further updates once the roadway has been cleared and is safe for public use.
