Fadlu – Chippa Vs Arrows Game Was ‘A Disgrace’

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has stated that the match between Chippa United and Golden Arrows was “a disgrace” after the goalless draw saved the Chilli Boys from relegation and play-offs.

The two clubs played with little intensity in their last game of the season two weeks ago, with videos of Arrows players showboating without any pressure from Chippa trending on social media afterwards.

This was despite Arrows having a chance to finish inside the top eight to qualify for the MTN8 quarter finals tie away next season, while Chippa needed a draw to save their status and avoid play-offs after Swallows scored two goals against Marumo Gallants, who were in turn relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Eastern Cape club finished 14th on the DStv Premiership table, while Maritzburg 15th in the relegation spot, with Davids not happy how their game turned out.

“It is reason why I spoke the way I did, blatantly live on TV,” said Davids, who spoke to SuperSport TV after they draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in their last game days before Chippa and Gallants played, as the Team of Choice match was brought forward since Sundowns was playing Wydad Casablanca in the second leg semi final of the CAF Champions League on the same day the league was ending.

“That is the most disappointing. Maybe if there was a TV in the bush somewhere that nobody saw, but still a disgrace and live on TV – I don’t care.

“But okay, it is in the past now and we move on. That is why I was calling for the way I did (one split screen). It was really disappointing that our league is coming to this.”

Maritzburg, having finished 15th in the table, started the PSL playoffs with a 2-0 win over Casric Stars at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.

Two goals by Rowan Human were enough to see the Team of Choice move top of the mini league on goal scored, levelled on three points with Cape Town Spurs.

These two sides will meet each other at Athlone Stadium on Saturday (15:00).
