Owen Ndlovu, former Ukhozi FM sports presenter and CEO of Away From Here, is reportedly suing the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (Sambro) for cancelling his company’s contract.
Ndlovu’s company got a R20-million tender with Sambro in April, which was later cancelled.
Sources say Ndlovu refused to offer personal favours to Sambro chairperson Nicholas Maweni.
“We were shocked to learn that the contract was cancelled because Owen refused to follow the terms and conditions of the chairperson,” a source revealed.
Another source said: “We have heard some stories that at Sambro, you have to offer some personal favours to work with Sambro without hiccups.”
Maweni denied involvement in the tender process and directed questions to Sambro CEO Annebell Lebethe.
Lebethe didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Ndlovu said he couldn’t comment “since it is now with the lawyers”.
“I have not spoken out about it in public because I believe that we can find each other and reach a good solution that will be good for both parties.”
This isn’t Ndlovu’s first controversy. He previously sued the SABC over the Song of the Year Competition, which was later cancelled.
