Fecafoot has confirmed former captain Rigobert Song as the new Cameroon head coach and he’ll be assisted by a former Premier Soccer League (PSL) boss.
The Cameroon Football Association, led by legendary Samuel Eto’o has made the bold decision to replace António Conceição despite leading the Indomitable Lions to third place at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in their home country and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-offs.
Two-time winning AFCON legend Song, whose only previous experience of management was with the U23 squad and CHAN – saw his campaigns end at the first hurdle in both tournaments.
But in the statement released by the federation, he’ll be accompanied by several experienced heads in what’s set to be new dawn under the leadership of Eto’o.
Sebasitien Migne, the first-ever coach of Marumo Gallants, who was eventually sacked for allegedly directing offensive language to technical director Harris Choeu – will be his first assistant.
With extensive experience, having served as Claude Le Roy’s number two with DR Congo and Togo, he also held head coach roles with Kenya and Equatorial Guinea.
Augustine Simo, a former teammate of Song in the late 90’s will be his local assistant alongside Souleymanou Haminou as the goalkeeper coach,Raymond Kalla as the Team Manager and former PSG coachRaphaël Fevre as the fitness trainer.
Song will immediately be thrown into the deep end when they face Algerian in a two-legged tie at the end of the month for a place at the Qatar 2022.
