Ex-PSL coach, former Chelsea boss Avram Grant vie for Zambia job

Former Marumo Gallants coach Sebastien Migne and ex-Chelsea boss Avram Grant have been shortlisted for Zambia’s Chipolopolo job.

Migne and Grant headline the shortlist, also comprising Peter Butler, Gert Engels, Roberto Blanchi, Anthony Hey, Goran Stankovic and Hossam Albadry.

Zambians Wedson Nyirenda and Honour Janza have also made it on the list, according to FAZ general secretary Adrian Kashala.

Migne was sacked as Gallants coach last October after falling out with technical director Harris Chueu.

Migne had, before trekking down to South Africa, coached in Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea.

AVRAM GRANT’S AFRICA COACHING EXPERIENCE

On the other hand, Avram Grant has African football coaching experience after leading Ghana to the AFCON finals and quarterfinals.

Kashala has released the shortlist of candidates to replace Aljosa Asanovic. The Croat resigned recently, citing unpaid dues.

Kashala says a panel of experts comprising FAZ representatives, the government and the Zambia Football Coaches Association is milling through the candidates.

“We are greatly encouraged by the number of people that showed interest in the Chipolopolo job. As FAZ, we will ensure that the process is seen out transparently from the beginning to the end,” Kashala said.

“We also wish to thank the government for taking interest in the process by having a representative on the panel alongside ZAFCA and the Technical Committee.”

WENGER’S PROTÉGÉ MISSES CUT

Arsene Wenger’s protégé Dan Kabwe, who confirmed to FARPost that he had applied for the post, has missed the cut.

FAZ says interviews for the top 10 selected candidates are underway to come up with the best three.

Zambia are in desperate need of a coach to take the 2012 AFCON champions back to their glory days.

The Chipolopolo last qualified for the AFCON finals in 2017 under the tutelage of Janza. The Zambian is now Tanzania’s caretaker coach in addition to his full-time job at Namungo FC.
