Ex-Polokwane City midfielder Salulani Phiri says Zanaco will be ready for the 2022/2023 season, despite their poor run in the just-ended Four-Club Preseason Tournament in Lusaka.
Perennial top-two FAZ Super League finishers Zanaco, who finished sixth last season, lost all their three games at the pre-season tournament held from July 29-August 1 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
The tournament attracted defending FAZ Super League champions Red Arrows, runners-up Zesco United and last terms third place finishers Green Eagles.
“Good tournament before the start of the season. I think the most important thing was to try and see how the team plays,” Salulani said.
Zanaco started the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Arrows on July 29, then went down 2-0 to Zesco on July 31 and closed the round-robin event on August 1 with another 2-0 defeat to Eagles.
“Yes, we lost three games, but we have picked some positive things from the tournament,” Salulani said.
“We are almost done with pre-season, and in a few days from now, the season starts.
“So I think I would say that we are set because we have been training very hard, and I think we are there.”
Salulani enters his second season with Zanaco after rejoining the Zambian club as a free agent just four years after he left the Lusakaside for the PSL to join Polokwane City.
The seven-time Zambian champions kick off their 2022/2023 FAZ Super League campaign on August 20, away to Chambishi FC.
