Police have arrested three more suspects linked to an investigation into a suspected R10 million insurance murder-for-payout scheme.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday morning, 10 March 2026, in Limpopo after authorities secured seven warrants of arrest.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the arrests are linked to former police sergeant Rachel Kutumela, who was previously arrested in connection with the case.
“All suspects are believed to have taken out life and funeral policies on 10 people who were later murdered. Three arrests have been made this morning. These include two brothers and a sangoma,” said Mathe.
She confirmed that Kutumela’s husband is among the latest suspects to be arrested.
“The latest suspect that we are arresting is the husband. We believe he had a role to play and also benefited from what was happening,” Mathe added.
Meanehile, Kutumela was arrested in October 2024 while on duty and has since been dismissed from the South African Police Service.
She remains in custody alongside three other suspects, including her sister, daughter and elder brother.
Authorities say they are working closely with banks and insurance companies as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud and murder plot.
More arrests are imminet.
