Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Momcilo Medic has cajoled the Buccaneers to “fight like lions” when squaring up against RB Berkane on Friday in the crunch CAF Confederation Cup final in Nigeria.

“Congratulations to my former club for reaching the final of the Confederation Cup. I wish them well to win the final match…believe in yourselves and fight like lions,” he told FARPost from Burundi.

Medic still follows Pirates as he served as the team’s assistant coach under compatriot Kostad Papic between 2004 and 2006 when they nearly won the Premier League title.

Medic went on to coach a number of clubs such as Royal Eagles and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa in countries such as Ghana.

The Serb is now in Burundi, where he is chasing a double of honours at Flambeau Du Centre FC. He guided the club to the 2021/2022 Burundi Premier League title over the weekend, and he is now chasing cup glory.

Medic’s side realised 53 points to shrug off Athletico New Oil Football Academy, who were close pursuers after finishing in second place with 52 points.

“I am happy because my team has worked really hard throughout the season and kept focused to win on the last last,” he told the media.
