Ex-MK Party SG claims millions transferred to entity of Dudu Myeni’s son

Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary-general Sibonelo Nomvalo has alleged that at least R3 million was transferred monthly from the party’s organisational accounts into business bank accounts allegedly belonging to a company linked to Thalente Myeni, the son of the late former SAA chairperson Dudu Myeni.

The former secretary-general made the allegations during a media briefing in Durban on Friday 30 October, where he accused people who benefited from informal power within the party of resisting his attempts to introduce proper institutional controls and accountability.

He claimed that the alleged transfers were among several instances of serious financial misconduct identified during his time in office.

“When the MK Party was established, the people of South Africa were literally hungry for an alternative. I always knew that my attempts to institutionalise the MK Party would be met with attacks because there are beneficiaries of informal power,” he said.

“It is the same beneficiaries who moved not less than three million per month from organisational accounts to business bank accounts allegedly belonging to a company of Thalente Myeni, who is the son of the late Dudu Myeni.”
EFF claimed in Parliament when Zuma was the president of the Republic of South Africa that Dudu Myeni was Zuma’s wife.

Nomvalo did not provide further details about the alleged transactions during the briefing.

The former secretary-general said he had been fighting to protect the organisation and its president Zuma, from people he accused of misleading the party leadership.

He claimed that several intelligence reports containing fabricated allegations had been submitted to Zuma in attempts to undermine him and influence decisions within the party.

He also accused certain party members of taking advantage of Zuma’s accessibility and age to persuade him to sign documents based on what he described as incorrect information.

He said he had consistently called for consequence management against those who undermined the president’s authority.

The former secretary-general said that when he joined the organisation as an ordinary branch volunteer in February 2024, the party was facing serious organisational challenges.

He claimed that the MK Party was in possession of a final warning from the Electoral Commission of South Africa because it was not compliant with the commission’s requirements.

He said he worked with former PTT members to ensure that the party submitted the necessary documents and complied with the requirements.

He further described the organisation as having been plagued by factionalism, instability and what he called parasitism.

He urged MK Party members to stand up and protect the organisation, as well as Zuma, against the alleged abuse taking place within its structures.

“The membership of the MK Party must stand up and save their organisation and President Zuma against all the abuse I’ve alluded to,” he said.

He maintained that his efforts to institutionalise the party had made him a target of people who were opposed to changes that could threaten their influence.

The allegations of financial misconduct have not been independently verified.
