Controversial footballer George Lebese beats wife over Bongani Zungu kissing incident. It seems he knows well how to make headlines for the wrong reasons. Mamelodi Sundowns‘ talisman Bongani Zungu has been topping trends after it was alleged that he was in a brawl with Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Lebese.
Sources say that hell broke loose when Lebese accused loverboy Zungu of kissing his wife. Rumour mill has it that the two had to go pound after Lebese’s wife Mapaseka “Melba” Nkosi allegedly kissed current Masandawana player Bongani Zungu. However, reports have it that the incident happened in the early hours of Monday outside a nightclub in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
Patrons had to call in for help. Against their wish, the police registered their brawl as Gender Base Violence. In the mix, Lebese and his wife were taken into police custody but refused to press charges against each other. Contacted for comment Rosebank police spokesperson Bongi Mdletshe, a fight did take place, and Nkosi opened a protection order against Lebese.
“The fight started after they argued with whoever they argued with. She came to complete the gender-based violence forms and left. We advised them to obtain protection orders against each other,” said Mdletshe.

However, it seems as if Lebese is not new to drama. He has been implicated in two scuffles that ended with protection orders. An assault case was once opened against him in 2015. In 2015 he topped the headlines when he allegedly assaulted his then 22-year-old girlfriend. According to News24, he even damaged the car of her alleged girlfriend when they had a brawl in Silverton on 8 February.
In the mix of things, Lebese confirmed that he had a brawl with his wife but never assaulted her. He denied that it became physical. The 33-year-old did rubbish the claims that the incident had anything to do with Bongani Zungu. Zungu is currently married to celebrated actress Cindy Mahlangu, best known for her on-screen characters on The Queen and the e.tv drama series Scandal. The two recently welcomed their bundle of joy before Zungu made his million-rand move back to DStv Premier League.
“We knew that you guys will pick it up. But it is not true that we fought over him, people are making it up because his football career is on another level. The truth is we had an argument outside the club over a phone call that she received, not because of that person,” said Lebese.
