Ex-Chiefs star Musona sends warning to Bafana Bafana

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has sent a warning to Bafana Bafana ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

Bafana take on Zimbabwe in their penultimate World Cup qualifier. Although the Warriors are out of the running to qualify for next year’s showpiece, South Africa needs two big wins to secure a ticket to the World Cup.

Musona, who retired from the Zimbabwean national team five years ago, returned to the squad in March to help the struggling Warriors side.

“I want to deliver a convincing performance that will leave the fans happy,” Musona said as per Soccer Laduma.

“I have played in South Africa before and I left a great impression,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to leaving another good impression. People know me for my performance at Kaizer Chiefs, so I want to leave a similar impression when we face South Africa on Friday,” he concluded.

Musona made his name at Chiefs between 2009 and 2011, where he scored 19 goals in 49 matches, earning the nickname ‘Smiling Assassin’. After two successful seasons with Amakhosi, the ex-Warriors captain left for Germany but briefly returned to Chiefs on loan in 2013.

In 2011, Musona scored a brace against Bafana, which gave Zimbabwe a 2-1 victory in an international friendly match. On Friday, the Smiling Assassin will look to repeat his heroics from 14 years ago, although he is no longer the same player.

In the four World Cup qualifiers he played, the ex-Chiefs star has only scored once and that was against Benin.

Who will stop Musona?
