Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has finally found a new home at Sekhukhune United.
Akpeyi was keeping himself fit under the watchful eye of his former international goalie Greg Etafia while waiting for opportunities, which now have come from joining Sekhukhune.
The Nigeria international was without a club after leaving Amakhosi at the end of last season, where he spent three seasons.
He featured in 69 matches for Chiefs, including as the starter in the CAF Champions League final loss to Al Ahly last year in July.
Strangely, the last time Akpeyi played in the PSL was against Sekhukhune on 14 May last season for Chiefs.
Babina Noko were initially among the clubs, alongside Swallows and Chippa United to have expressed interest in the Super Eagles keeper and while this website was informed they rebuffed his financial advances, the two parties are now believed to have reached an agreement for a one-year deal with an option to extend.
The 36-year-old is the fifth goalie at Sekhukhune as the club can call upon Ivory Coast international Ali Badra Sangare, Zambia international Toaster Nsabata, Ntokozo Mtshweni and Rowen van Vuuren.
Unlike last season, Sekhukhune has struggled to get things going under Kaitano Tembo this term, lying 14th in the DStv Premiership standings with six points after seven matches, one point ahead of 15th placed Marumo Gallants and bottom side Chippa United.
Sekhukhune will have time to iron out their poor form as their next game will be against Stellenbosch on 17 September at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
