Former Orlando Pirates winger Sameehg Doutie scored for his new club in New Zealand, Manukau United in only his second appearance after coming out of retirement.

The 33-year-old announced his retirement early in 2022 when he couldn’t get a club in South Africa after he had been playing professional football for more than 10 years.

He won five trophies in his career, including two Telkom Knockouts. He ran out for Ajax Cape Town (Cape Town Spurs), Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits and also plied his trade in Sweden and India, where he won the Indian Super League in 2016 with Atletico de Kolkata.

Early last month this publication reported in edition 98 of the newspaper that Doutie is a wanted man in New Zealand, and had penned a deal with Manukau who are fighting relegation in the Northern League.

A few weeks ago the deal was done and the Cape Town-born winger made his debut on 13 May in a 3-0 defeat against Manurewa.

This past weekend, Doutie scored his first goal in New Zealand, which was his side’s first goal in a 3-2 loss against Western Springs AFC.

Manukau are second from bottom in the Northern League, with only five points from 10 games so far. However, Doutie had reason to be proud after his goal was nominated for the Goal of the Week.
