Ex-Al Ahly coach Carteron reveals he turned own offer from Egypt | African News

Former Al Ahly and Zamalek coach Patrice Carteron has revealed that he turned down a big-money offer to coach Egypt.
Carteron was one of the coaches tipped to succeed Carlos Queiroz as Egypt coach after the latter was fired a few weeks ago.
According to Kingfut,.com, several names had surfaced as candidates for the job, including Hossam Hassan, Ali Maher, Vahid Halilhodžić, former coach Hector Cuper, and Hassan Shehata.
Carteron, who is the coach of Saudi Professional League side Ettifaq claimed he was approached by the EFA to lead Egypt.
“I was pleased that I was offered the chance to coach the Egyptian national team, and this made me very happy,” Carteron told Al Arabiya.
“However, I like to take on new challenges and I am confident I can keep Ettifaq in the Saudi Professional League.
“For me, I cannot leave a club at such difficult times. I respect Ettifaq’s president and I believe their circumstances prevented me from accepting Egypt’s offer.
“I listen to what my heart tells me, and it seemed to me that the most important thing now is to save Ettifaq from possible relegation,” he added.
Carteron’s side face the threat of relegation as they are 15th with 24 points after 24 games played.
