Ex-Ahly Coach: Tau, Miquissone Not Special

Former Al Ahly and Egypt national team coach Anwar Salama says there’s nothing special about Pitso Mosimane’s latest signings Percy Tau and Luis Miqussone.

Mosimane, who previously worked with both attacking talents at Sundowns roped them into the Egyptian giants during the off-season from Brighton & Hove Albion and Simba SC respectively.

While Tau started in emphatic fashion with five goals in his first seven games, he suffered an injury blow that saw him ruled out of the FIFA Club World Cup, while he’s now being eased back into the starting lineup.

Miquissone has struggled to cement his place in the team but scored an incredible brace recently in their 4-0 win over Misr Lel Mekassa in the Egyptian Premier League.

Salama feels neither player have improved the Red Devils and Mosimane could have opted to give more local players a chance.

“In the past few years, Al Ahly have bought Ali Maaloul and Aliou Dieng, they are both very good players,” he said in an interview with ETC Television on Wednesday evening.

“However, I believe Percy Tau and Miquissone are not special in any way. We have more talented players in Egypt. I think the foreigners that play for Egyptian clubs should be of higher quality to earn their spots.”

Tau and Miquissone will be looking to feature for Ahly when they face off against Al-Merrikh this weekend, before a top-of-the-table clash against Pyramids next Tuesday.
