The City of eThekwini has responded to a report that it spent R6-million taking dozens of taxi owners overseas.
Scrolla reported that the trip was to London. The City of eThekwini says the delegation flew from Durban to Johannesburg where it took a flight to Doha to connect to their final destination of Jakarta, Indonesia.
“The delegation that the Municipality is aware of travelled to Jakarta, Indonesia,
consisting of three city officials and forty-four representatives from the eThekwini
Metro Taxi Council (EMTC).”
“The objective of the learning exchange to Jakarta was to study the transformation
and formalisation of their minibus taxi operations.”
The City disputed the R6-million price tag, saying the trip to Jakarta cost R2-million.
Scrolla apologises for the errors.
