Job Purpose	To effectively clean and maintain the sewerage system.
Key Responsibility Areas	Supervises and controls a team of assistants. Transports staff to work sites in a responsible manner. Operates specialised extra heavy duty vehicle comprising of vacuum/high pressure jetting equipment. Completes job costing/work schedule records for work undertaken. Prepares sketches and reports on defects, invert levels and depths and locates sewer network using plans. Liaises with members of the public in respect of work undertaken with private properties, including obtaining the authorisation to undertake such work. Ensures that the work site is securely barricaded and made safe for road or pedestrian traffic and ensuring that all departmental health and safety standards are adhered to. Receives work from Control Room and communicates with Control Room via radio. Undertakes field investigations and reports back to the Superintendent. Undertakes duties of the Drainage Supervisor as required.
Essential Requirements	An appropriate level of secondary education. Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code EC) plus PRDP. 12 Months relevant experience in driving heavy duty vehicles similar to those used by the Department. Must have a working knowledge and experience of drain cleaning using HP jetting equipment and manual drain cleaning.
Preferred Requirements	Matric/Grade 12. 18 Months relevant experience.
