Esperance de Tunis pulled off a massive away win over CR Belouizdad, while Petro de Luanda and Raja Athletic Club also impressed with wins in the CAF Champions League.

Saturday started with Al Hilal beating Al Ahly 1-0 in Khartoum with Glody Lilepo scoring a stunning free-kick while Uganda champions Vipers SC secured their first point in the group stage in their maiden campaign with a goalless draw with Horoya.

With Mamelodi Sundowns securing two wins from two to currently lead Group B – Raja, Esperance, and Petro have also put their hands up as potential contenders for the continental showpiece.

Petro beat AS Vita 2-1 away from home with captain Tiago Azulao and Anderson Cruz scoring goals in each half before Éric Kabwe netted a late consolation.

It moved them to the summit of Group A, followed by JS Kabyile and Vita, with reigning champions at the bottom and winless after their first game – the Botola Pro champions and Ahly both had their opening fixtures postponed due to their FIFA Club World Cup commitments earlier this month.

The fierce Casablanca rivals – who’ve not had the best of domestic seasons thus far have not encountered such problems in CAF competitions, with eight goals in two games as they followed up their 5-0 win over Vipers with a 3-0 win over Simba SC in Dar Es Salaam.

Hamza Khabba, Soufiane Benjdida and Ismael Mokadem all found the net for the North Africans as they look poised to ease through Group C, while Horoya, on four points, trail them in second place.

In the final game of the day, Taraji moved to six points with a morale-boosting 1-0 win over the Algeria Ligue 1 champions with Hamdou Elhouni scoring a late winner.
