Duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
• Delivering on key outputs critical to the functioning and operation of the boiler health care maintenance management system/software
• Ensuring that key deliverables or outputs are archived/stored in accordance with the requirements of the applicable Eskom and ERI standards and policies
• Ensuring that all key parameters of the boiler health care maintenance management system are properly set up, along with the required inspection templates
Qualifications and experience
Minimum Requirements
Qualification(s):
• BSc. Eng./B.Eng./B-Tech. Eng. APPLICABLE (Mechanical/Metallurgical)
• For Design Engineer: BSc/BEng Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
• Completed EIT Training Programme for Graduates
• At least 2 Years’ Industry related engineering experience in thermal power plant boilers.
• The employee is a qualified graduate with extensive experience in sourcing information, networking and with industry related engineering experience.
• Proficiency is using a boiler health care system or asset management system used in maintenance of boiler pressure parts is essential.
Skills and Competencies
Skills:
• Technical competency in the relevant Engineering Discipline (i.e. Mechanical or Metallurgical)
• Good working knowledge of failure mechanisms affecting boiler tubing and other boiler components in thermal power plants.
• Good knowledge and understanding of boiler inspection techniques used in identifying and quantifying various failure/degradation mechanisms and in operating a boiler maintenance management system.

• Proficiency in using a boiler health care system or asset integrity management system or maintenance management system for the management of the health of boiler pressure-part assets and maintenance activities.
• Ability to conduct root-cause analyses (RCA) on thermal power plant components to address failures and major incident investigations.
• Proficiency in using CAD software to create plant drawings/maps.
• Analytical, problem-solving skills, investigative skills and technical negotiating skills
• High level of computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Projects and related Engineering (CAD) Software is essential.
• Effective communications skills (English), and able to communicate at all levels in the Organisation.
Knowledge:
• Engineering and Technical knowledge in relevant Engineering Discipline (i.e. Mechanical, Physical Metallurgy)
• Good knowledge of failure/degradation mechanisms affecting power plant boiler equipment/components, as well as the root-causes and factors that drive damage associated with these mechanisms.
• Good working knowledge of boiler inspection techniques to identify various damage and anomalies on power plant boiler equipment/components.
