Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway produced one of the biggest upsets of the FIFA World Cup, defeating Brazil 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals at Gillette Stadium.
The Manchester City striker inspired the European side with a goal in each half as Brazil’s late comeback proved to be in vain.
NORWAY’S DISCIPLINE STUNS BRAZIL
Norway frustrated the tournament favourites from the opening whistle, defending with discipline and limiting Brazil to very few clear-cut opportunities despite spending long spells without the ball.
Their reward came in the first half when Erling Haaland rose highest inside the penalty area to power home a superb header, handing Norway a surprise lead against the run of play.
Brazil threw everything forward after the break and finally found an equaliser deep into stoppage time through a slick attacking move that ended with a composed finish into the bottom corner. The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Brazilian supporters, who believed their side had rescued the contest.

The celebrations barely had time to settle before Norway struck back. Straight from the restart, Brazil failed to deal with the danger and the ball broke kindly for Erling Haaland, who kept his composure to drill a low, grass-cutting finish beyond the goalkeeper and restore his side’s lead.
There was no way back for Brazil this time as the final whistle confirmed one of the greatest shocks in recent FIFA World Cup history.
Norway will now face England in the quarter-finals on 11 July after the Three Lions defeated Mexico 3-2 on Sunday.
