Shoaib Bashir was the star as England spun West Indies out for just 143 on day four at Trent Bridge to claim an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match test series.
Ollie Pope’s 121 off 167 balls in the first innings and half century in the second helped him earn the man of the match award.
Harry Brook and Joe Root both scored hundreds, too, as the hosts were bowled out for 425 in their second innings to add to the 416 scored in the first.
It would be a high scoring affair after the Windies took a narrow lead after their first innings; but with a target of 385 to get, they would fall short to some incredible bowling.
Bashir became the first spinner in 18 years to take five wickets in a test at Trent Bridge. His figures of 5/41 meant the visitors were quickly cleaned up in England’s 241 run win.
“The comeback after West Indies’ opening partnership was quite remarkable and Bash [Shoaib Bashir] showed the world what he is about,” captain Ben Stokes said post-match.
“On a wicket that has not necessarily offered a lot for the spinners in the game, the ability he had to change his pace, change his line, manipulate how he wanted the ball to react out of the surface, was top class.”
The final test takes place at Edgbaston from Friday onwards.
