Award-winning hip hop artist Mthembeni Ndevu, better known by his stage name as Emtee, made a brief appearance in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with allegations that he breached a protection order obtained by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy, in 2023.
The court order bars Ndevu from verbally abusing Chinsamy or targeting her through social media.
He was released on R1,000 bail on 11 June 2026.
The court extended his bail after postponing the matter until Friday to allow investigators to complete their probe.
Nicole Chinsamy’s mother, Rosslyn Chinsamy, was present in court to support her daughter.
Speaking after the proceedings, Rosslyn said she could no longer remain silent.
She said she was tired of Emtee’s alleged abusive and took a decision to come to court to support her daughter.
The couple, who is in the process of divorcing, previously aired allegations of abuse against each other on social media.
Both posted photographs that they claimed showed bruises as well as damage to the doors of their apartment.
Emtee initiated divorce proceedings against Chinsamy in April 2023 before moving out of their apartment to stay with a friend in Fourways.
The pair later reconciled and went on to welcome their third child together.
Their relationship eventually ended again, and Emtee moved into his own home in February this year.
