EMTEE GRANTED BAIL AFTER SPENDING NIGHT IN CUSTODY
Rapper Emtee has been released on R1,000 bail after spending a night in custody at the Midrand Police Station in Johannesburg.
He appeared in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court over allegations that he violated a 2023 protection order involving his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy.
The court ordered him to remove all past online content about Chinsamy and strictly prohibited him from contacting, speaking about, or posting anything related to her.
Several supporters, including fellow artist Sjava, were present in court to offer solidarity.Reports indicate that Emtee handed himself over to the police.
The case is linked to an incident on June 4, when he allegedly entered Chinsamy’s home while she was bathing their daughter.
He is expected back in court on July 13.
The relationship between the South African hip-hop artist and Chinsamy has been marred by a highly publicised, years-long history of reciprocal domestic abuse allegations.
Emtee claimed on social media that Chinsamy and her mother were physically abusive toward him.
In an interview with News24’s DRUM Magazine, he alleged that the pair took turns choking and attempting to suffocate him, prompting him to seek a protection order.
Chinsamy strongly denied the claims, calling them a fabrication intended to damage her character.
Emtee publicly apologised to Chinsamy for his social media outbursts.
An Instagram Live broadcast capturing a heated dispute between the couple went viral.
In the video, Chinsamywho was seven months pregnant at the time showed photos of her swollen face and accused Emtee of physical assault.
Following the viral video, Chinsamy opened a case of common assault under domestic violence legislation at the Midrand Police Station.
Emtee handed himself over to the authorities, was charged, and was later released on bail.
He maintained that he acted strictly in self-defence.Although Chinsamy withdrew the assault charges in April 2023, the cycle of conflict led to Emtee moving out of their shared home and filing for divorce.
