Kenyan-born comedian and content creator Elsa Majimbo has found herself at the center of a heated online debate after a recent post rubbed many South Africans the wrong way.

The young star, who’s known for her bold humor and global success, shared a video on social media where she described herself in a way that didn’t sit well with Mzansi netizens.

In the clip, Majimbo confidently declared: “Kenyan by blood, South African in nature, Hollywood in spirit. The African who rules the streets of LA. Bad man Elsa.”

While her post seemed lighthearted, many South Africans took offense, accusing her of overstepping by claiming to be “South African in nature.”

Comments quickly flooded her page, with some calling her out and others coming to her defense.

One user, @mignon_ette_, wrote: “Sorry, Elsa, though South Africans consumed your content during COVID and you loved them for it, you are going to see the ugly side of some of their xenophobia/internal antiblackness with this post.”

Another fan, @koko_nangamso, came to her defense and tried to explain the meaning behind Elsa’s words.

“For those who haven’t followed Elsa long enough, when she says SA by nature, it’s because she received a lot of support, following and love from South Africans on her come-up, while some people from her country were shunning her. Hope you’re good.”
