Desiree Ellis has named her Banyana Banyana squad for face 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts Australia in October.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions will take on Australia in another high-profile friendly match on 8 October in London.

Australia, who currently ranked in 12th position in the FIFA Women’s ranking, have won the Oceania Women’s Nations Cup thrice and have been at the last seven Women’s World Cups.

They will provide another stern test for Ellis and her side in the build-up to next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, after they recently lost 6-0 and 3-0 to Brazil. The two defeats came after Banyana collected six wins on their path to lifting their first ever WAFCON title.

Ellis has made a few changes to her squad, with goalkeeper Kaylin Swart, captain Janine van Wyk, defenders Lebo Ramalepe, Noko Matlou as well as forward Noxolo Cesane absent from the 23-woman squad, while Gabriela Salgado is back in the selection.
