Ellis names Banyana AWCON preliminary squad | African News

Banyana Banyana mentor Desiree Ellis has announced her preliminary squad for the Caf Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) due to take place in Morocco next month.

The 33-member squad selected will report for camp in Johannesburg on Friday, 10 June 2022.

South Africa are drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, Botswana and Burundi.

Banyana will play their first match against Nigeria on July 4 in Rabat. Ellis’ side lost to the Super Falcons on penalties in the last AWCON tournament held in Ghana.

The two-time Caf Women’s Coach of the Year will announce her final squad before the team departs for the tournament on 21 June.
