Royal AM attacking midfielder Elias Pelembe has disclosed how Gavin Hunt improved his game during their time together at SuperSport United.

Pelembe joined Matsatsansa a Pitori in 2007 from the Mozambican club called Maputo.

‘Domingues’, as he’s well-known, was part of the Tshwane side’s squad that won the ABSA Premiership in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons.

He had played an integral role in both seasons before he left to join the club’s cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2009.

Pelembe says during the period he spent at United, Hunt taught him how to stay on top of his game. He says he has brought that lesson everywhere he goes.

“I remember when I was still at SuperSport, he used to tell me that I always have to be consistent,” he said.

“I cannot play one game and then the next game very bit. So, I need to keep that consistency.

“So, from there I took that, I’ve been doing that in every game that I’m playing. I’m trying to also take it to another level.

“I know it won’t be all the time that you gonna play so well but you need to have that consistency, at least 8 or 7 [ratings] must be there, not less than that.

“So, I have that mentality and I keep on going with that.”

Reacting to being chosen by Hunt as the best player he has ever coached, he said, “I think it’s an honour for me to hear that.”

“All the time, he knows I’ve been giving him passion. Maybe it’s because I’m that kind of player who can deal with any coach.

“Like, I know my job is to train, be well-conditioned and the rest is with the coach. So, any coach that I have, I try to follow.

“So, I adapt to the coach and I think it makes it easy for me. Also the desire, it’s something that he knows I love it [football].”
