Eleven learners killed in scholar transport crash in Vanderbijlpark

Eleven school children have reportedly lost their lives in a tragic incident involving a scholar transport in Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging.

The incident occurred on Monday morning, 19 January 2025, where five other learners reportedly sustained critical injuries and were rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The scene remains active, with emergency services still attending the incident. Further verified details will be shared in due course as more information becomes available.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is expected to visit the scene of the crash. MEC Chiloane is also expected to brief the media after assessing the scene.

This brutal accident that has left families reeling and the community in shock, happens just a few days after the beginning of the 2026 academic year.
