The City of Ekurhuleni has officially appointed Kagiso Lerutla as its new City Manager, succeeding Imogen Mashazi, who retired earlier this year.
Lerutla, a chartered accountant, steps into the top administrative role after previously serving as the metro’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
The city highlighted Lerutla’s extensive background, noting he brings 13 years of experience in public finance and governance management to the position.
Furthermore, his tenure as CFO saw Ekurhuleni achieve three consecutive clean audits.
Lerutla’s journey in the metro has been marked by significant turbulence.
In 2023, he was the target of an apparent assassination attempt when unknown gunmen fired multiple bullets into his car.
The appointment makes Lerutla the permanent successor to Mashazi, the city’s first female City Manager, who retired after nearly three decades of service.
