Egypt Appoint New Head Coach

The Egyptian Football Association has officially confirmed the appointment of Portuguese Rui Vitoria as the new head coach on a four-year deal.

The 52-year-old is the 54th coach to be in charge of the Pharaohs and the second Portuguese after Carlos Queiroz in the history of Egyptian football.

Vitoria has won 10 major trophies throughout his career, including back-to-back league titles with Benfica in 2016 and 2017. He was also voted as the best coach in Primeira Liga for two consecutive seasons.

In 2018/2019 he won Saudi Professional League with Al-Nassr and in 2019 the man delivered the Saudi Super Cup. Vitoria was recently with Russian side Spartak Moscow before joining the Pharaohs.

The Egyptian FA recently parted ways with Ehab Galal after he was in charge of only three games, following a 2-0 loss to Ethiopia a 4-1 loss to South Korea in a friendly match.

The task at hand is to qualify for the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, with the qualifiers resuming in September where they will face Malawi back-to-back before battling with Guinea in March 2023.
