Hillary Gardee, the daughter of former EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee, was still missing on Tuesday morning, despite the family offering an R100 000 reward.
Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a police spokesperson, confirmed on Tuesday morning that the search for Hillary is still ongoing. Hillary Gardee, 28, was last seen on Friday at a supermarket in Nelspruit.
She was dressed in a black top and black pants. “She is approximately 1.6 metres tall, and she has a piercing on her nose. She is also light in complexion,” he said.
Hillary, according to Mdhluli, lives in the Kwamagugu area outside of Nelspruit. “The victim was with a three-year-old girl during her disappearance. Surprisingly, the child was found, but Hillary was nowhere to be found.
“She was reported missing by her family on Saturday, 30 April 2022. Hillary has not returned home since then,” said Mdhluli.
Meanwhile, EFF national spokesperson Sinawo Thambo stated that, given South Africa’s unprecedented levels of violence against women and children, many are now speculating about the worst-case scenario.
Thambo stated that Hillary’s disappearance has caused untold pain to the Gardee family and tremendous sadness ‘to all of them as Commissar Gardee’s comrades.’
“Considering the high levels of violence against women and children in this country, the continued disappearance of Hillary is worrying and leads us all to speculate the worst.
“We plead with anyone who knows the whereabouts of Hillary to reach out to the relevant law enforcement agencies and the family and assist them in finding their beloved daughter. All ground forces of the EFF in Mpumalanga must lend a helping hand in the search to ensure that she is found alive, unharmed and well,” Thambo said.
