Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and community members are protesting outside the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court, where three suspects in the murder of 28-year-old Hillary Gardee are expected to appear.
Protesters are singing struggle songs in which they demand that the suspects’ bail be denied. Gardee’s body in Sabie last Tuesday, four days after she was reported missing.
According to a statement, the party and the Gardee family will ensure that the police have all of the necessary resources to conduct their investigations.
Protesters, mostly women, say they no longer feel safe.
We will agitate for active citizenship and reclaim our streets from thugs, who sometimes act with impunity and connive with police.

The EFF has welcomed the arrest of two more suspects in the investigation of Gardee’s murder and has stated that they will allow the police to do their job.
Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga government has yet to confirm reports that one of the suspects in the murder of 28-year-old Gardee is an employee of the state.
