Fall from glory. Edwin Sodi took to court by his estranged wife, Nthateng Lerata, over business empire settlement. Not so long ago, Mzansi learned about Edwin Sodi’s estranged wife. In the mix of things, it seems as if she is already topping the trend. Reports have it that embattled businessman Edwin Sodi is facing a multi-million-rand lawsuit from his estranged wife, Nthateng Lerata.

The split of properties and assets might seem like Sodi losing almost half of his business empire. This has been dupped as the biggest showdown between the former love birds. The two called it quit five years ago. Of interest is the fact that Lerata and Sodi had a settlement agreement. Sodi was supposed to pay Lerata a whopping R20 million for her role in his business empire.

The woes were disclosed to Lerata’s associate. Reports have it that the two had a customary marriage in 2012. Sodi and his family paid off R30 000 lobola for Lerata. In the wake of their marriage, the two are said to have decided to be equal partners in their business ventures.

However, this agreement permitted Lerata to have an equal share to Blackhead Consulting, Blackhead Investment, Phirie Construction, Base Properties and G5 Group. What comes as a shocker is that Lerata was the face of the companies as she was responsible for bookkeeping, negotiating and concluding agreements with employees of the partnership, acted as a hostess in the partnership of business-related activities, collected debts and controlled company spending, among other duties.

“Lerata agreed if their partnership or marriage ends, they will equally share assets and profit generated from the business partnership,” said the associate.

The associate revealed that Lerata revealed that a family trust was later created, at her behest, into which assets of their joint estate or partnership were transferred. However, in the wake of his newfound fame in 2016, Sodi violated the agreement. This comes after  Sodi moved out of their mansion in Bryanston, north of Joburg. He didn’t just move out but called it quits with Lerata.

In the wake of their fallout, the two agreed last year that Sodi would pay her in the region of R20 million for her partnership share. The ignorant business mogul is yet to honour his side of the agreement. To make matters worse, Lerata has turned to the courts. She wants the courts to give her the order to end the partnership. Mzansi awaits how she will lay her hands on Sodi’s assets as the state has frozen them.
